Controlled pressure relief as explosion protection
When storing and charging lithium batteries, great importance is attached to fire protection.
Equipped with important safety devices, the fire consequences of these energy storage devices can be reduced to a minimum and safety during operation can be significantly increased.
In the event of a defective Li-battery exploding, the cabinet doors can be blown open.
In CEMO battery storage and charging cabinets - in contrast to other manufacturers - the cabinet door is allowed to open a small way thanks to a spring mechanism, and is immediately pulled closed again and locked to ensure that the cabinet is fireproof. In this way, the explosion pressure is dissipated, and the cabinet is not damaged.
It has long been known among experts that lithium batteries are not only subject to flames and explosive burning of individual cells, but that a gas explosion of escaping cell vapours can also occur. This represents the worst case scenario in battery fires. An occurrence of an explosion nullifies the entire protective purpose of the cabinet and is therefore the most important criterion in the risk assessment.
The solution
CEMO lockEX is a spring-based mechanism in the door latch that effectively manages the explosion pressure of igniting gases inside the cabinet. This NO-BANG technology guarantees that protection is maintained.

With the occurrence of an ignition source (possibly initiated by electrical sparks or heat development of the battery itself), an explosion / gas ignition occurs. The lockEX mechanism dissipates the explosion energy in a controlled manner through a narrow gap.
Re-locked doors allow the batteries to degrade safely. The cabinet system is still operational and protects staff and the environment.
